Since the early 1990's, my family has been competing on the Southern United States Competition BBQ Circuit (Smoke Shack BBQ, Cindy and Scott McDaniel). With more than 15 titles under their belt, including the three-time South Carolina State Championship, we knew couldn't keep this secret hidden for long. Word soon got out, and every year more and more friends started begging me to bring back some of my family's award winning BBQ meats, sauces, spices and rubs each time we travelled down south. I was quickly overwhelmed by the demand, and realized that in order to keep up I would need to produce these family recipes right here in Canada.
This, combined with a love of food and a passion for creating delicious meals led me to sell the successful Internet company I had been running for almost 10 years and start up Buster Rhino's Authentic Southern BBQ in August 2005. I honed my BBQ talents by studying and learning from my family down in South Carolina, as well as some informal chef training from professionals in Canada. I believe that the secret to good BBQ is all in the "slow and low" cooking method used by the competitive BBQ'ers in the southern United States. Experimenting with different flavours, spice combinations and woods has led me to develop the signature Buster Rhino's BBQ products.
In less than two years Buster Rhino's has launched three heat-and-serve meats and five sauces and rubs into the Canadian marketplace. We are one of the official vendors of the Canadian BBQ Association, and have made numerous delicious meals for our customers and clients. I am proud to announce the opening of our new facilities in Whitby, Ontario in June 2007. I invite you to drop in and enjoy a pulled pork sandwich at our lunch counter, or pick up some ribs and BBQ sauce for your dinner tonight.
Sincerely,
Darryl Koster
